Choose the kind of check you want to make
- Read charts and company news: start with Apple Stocks. A ticker complements research rather than replacing it.
- Show a few symbols in the menu bar: compare Stock Ticker and Uptick. Check how many symbols fit and which features require payment.
- Open a stock-and-crypto quote panel: consider Toucan’s published watchlist and alert features.
- Glance at selected quotes beside your work: consider Stock Island’s notch or top floating display, with normal, Pixel and Stealth views.

- Mac compatibility
- macOS 13 or later; Apple silicon and Intel
- Watchlist & interaction
- Add a stock or spot pair, then hover to expand the local watchlist
- Account

Read the official source →Refresh intervals do not guarantee exchange-real-time quotes
Compare the actual feed, market and subscription level. A developer’s “real-time” description does not establish identical timing for every symbol or market. Check the listing’s qualifications, whether international data is intraday or end-of-day, and what happens after sleep or a lost connection.
Compare free downloads with the full cost
A free download can have a limited tier or paid features. Uptick lists optional Pro subscriptions; Stock Island offers a seven-day full-feature trial followed by a one-time unlock without automatic charges. Verify local prices in the App Store rather than relying on a fixed currency figure here.
Check accounts and portfolio features separately
Stock Island requires no Stock Island account or wallet connection and stores its watchlist locally. It does not place trades or calculate portfolio returns. Toucan’s developer also describes an account-free app. For other tools, confirm the current account requirements and data handling in their official information.
